Approved Indication

  • Premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD)
     
    Defined as persistent, distressing low sexual desire not caused by medical, psychiatric, relational, or drug-related factors.

Off-Label / Research Uses

  • Male erectile dysfunction (ED), especially in patients unresponsive to PDE5 inhibitors
  • SSRI/SNRI-induced sexual dysfunction (loss of desire, anorgasmia)
  • Female sexual arousal disorder and orgasmic disorder
  • Psychological ED and low sexual motivation in both men and women

Contraindicated Groups

  • Known hypersensitivity to bremelanotide or inactive ingredients
  • Uncontrolled hypertension or cardiovascular disease
  • History of priapism (in men)
  • Severe hepatic or renal impairment
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Children and adolescents

PT-141 acts as a potent agonist at melanocortin receptors MC4R and MC3R in the central nervous system, particularly in the hypothalamus, amygdala, and limbic reward system.
